Zachary

Robert and I were talking last night and we have so many funny stories about Zachary and the things he says, we need to start writing them down. I figured I would write up some of my favorites so we could remember the funny stuff he says and does.
Being a little brother of two older brothers, Zachary truly wants to please everyone. He does not like to take sides and really takes the middle road. So Zachary was at his well check and the Dr. was asking about sports that he plays. He said he plays soccer and t-ball. She then asked, well which sport do you like the best? He looked at me and then back to the Dr. and said, "I like them both the same." The Dr. said that is great that you like both sports the same, most kids will choose one or the other. I had to explain to her that I coach soccer and Robert coaches t-ball so....

The other night we were talking at the dinner table about the spelling bee that Zachary did at school. He is young compared to the kids that go on field trips and has not started school yet. He was kinda disappointed that he got out after the first round. His word was date and he spelled it dat. We thought it was a good attempt as those silent vowels always get you. Then we were talking about words he could spell and were trying to help his confidence by finding a word like dog and then log and then hog. He was starting to feel great and then Robert said cog. We all stopped and were confused as to what a cog was. We all told Robert it was not a word and we were all laughing. Robert was explaining what a cog was and Zachary was very quiet not really hearing the explanation of what a cog was. All of a sudden he said "so like I coged the toilet?" We all cracked up laughing and now will all remember the conversation about a cog :)

When Zachary started summer camp this year, we were going to try out a new school. I was nervous as he had been at the same place for several years. I took Zachary on his first day and of course Zachary took to the new environment just as I would have expected. He learned the new teachers names within seconds. I had to fill out some paperwork and when I was done, I gave him a hug and kiss and was about to leave. As I was leaving I noticed there was a calendar on the board and thought I should get one. I went back with the teacher to get one and when Zachary noticed I was still there, he politely asked, "Mom, when are you going to leave?" My worries about him being sad or clingy when I left were completely gone. The next day as I was getting to the school, he told me that I could drop him off at the street because he knew how to get himself into the school.
The other night Zachary was having some problems with his allergies. He woke up at 3:00 a.m. and came to my side of the bed. He was trying to be quiet but get my attention. He said, "Mom, I am having issues with my nose, can you please help me?" I don't know about you but at 3 o'clock in the morning, I am not speaking in complete sentences with manners! I woke up smiling and could not help hugging and kissing him as I helped him with his issues.
The other night, Robert had a meeting to go to. I was already at a meeting so Robert was leaving the boys at home. Zachary asked Robert if he could go to the meeting with him. Robert said, no you cannot go but why do you want to go? Zachary said he wanted to see what the meeting smelled like. Robert was confused and was looking to Jared and Ben to help him understand what Zachary meant. So Robert asked him why do you want to see what the meeting smells like? Zachary said because you always say it stinks to have to go the to meetings so I wanted to smell it!!!
I am sure there are a ton more that I am missing but I will finish with this one. Zachary is five and has two older brothers. So of course he is mature beyond what a normal five year old is. He thinks Megan Fox is hot, he can't wait until he can go to the movies with friends and cannot wait to have a i-pod. Regularly as I drive him to school, a song will come on the radio and he will ask, "Mom, can I get this song on my i-pod?" I simply tell him yes and we move on to other conversations. One day Jared and Benjamin were in the car and Zachary heard a song he liked and he asked his standard question and I of course answered yes. The older boys freaked out. When did Zachary get an i-pod, I had to be 11 before I got one blah, blah, blah. Zachary does not have an i-pod and will not be getting one for a few years. What makes him happy is to hear that one day, when he has one, he can get that song on it. He has never asked when he was getting one, just wants to make sure he will have some songs to put on it when he does. Gotta love that kid!!!

Weekend trip to Glenwood Springs

So, you would think we could easily pack for a two night stay in Glenwood Springs, right? Well, with a five year old, a twelve year old that will be playing baseball and a sixteen year old that wears sweatshirts in 90 degree weather, it is not always that simple. Of course we need to put the Yakima on top of the car to make our Tahoe feel roomy :) All being said, we will get there, the stress of packing will be forgotten and the boys will have a great time in the hot springs and hopefully win some baseball games. Will update when I return and post some pics of the hot springs and baseball games.
